Plutella porrectella
Species account (old)
This is a well distributed species [...] but not so common as Robson thought it to be [...] Perhaps this is because its foodplant, Hesperis matronalis is not such a common border plant in our flower gardens as it was ninety years ago. TCD found larvae in spun tips of Red Campion in Whiteside Wood, near Burnhope on 18-4-90 and in Cong Burn Wood SSSI near Chester-le-Street on 24-4-1990. Samples from both sites were collected and bred through in the hope of rearing Caryocolum viscariella Stt. To his surprise the moths were P. porrectella indicating a foodplant not previously recorded as far as we can tell.
