Species account (old)
Given by Agassiz (1987) as a local and little known species and by Robson as scarce insect, it has been found from a number of trap sites in vc 66 (TCD). From one of them (Butterknowle) these moths arrived in very large numbers. As a result of searching the immediate vicinity the characteristic deep red larvae were found in webs on both rowan and hawthorn. Nearby, in Hamsterley Forest, the moth was also found to be quite common although not so regularly abundant as at Butterknowle. [...]
